Culture

The Maison du Patrimoine is located in the hamlet of La Pierre in Saint-Colomban-des-Villards and displays a remarkable collection of traditional village costumes. It also features the interior of a local home as it looked in the past, with numerous everyday, work, and farming objects.

In Valmaure, the Chapelle Notre-Dame des Neiges was built in 1691; it houses two 18th-century paintings by Laurent Dufour. The Eglise de St Colomban des Villards is Neo-Gothic and replaced an older Romanesque church. In 1981, it was severely damaged by the force of an avalanche. Local volunteers, brought together under the umbrella of the Notre Clocher association, are committed to preserving and restoring the church.

Routes and getting there

The Circuit des chapelles – Circuit de St Colomban des Villards circular route begins at the chief town and passes six chapels in the municipality. The road to the Col du Glandon has already been used 14 times by the Tour de France.

The route is accessed via exit 26 at Sainte-Marie-de-Cuines/La Chambre; it then follows the Vallée des Villards and the RD 927. Rail connections are available via the Gare de St Avre / La Chambre station, 10 km away.
