Winter and Hiking

The hike to Fort du Mont-Froid reaches an altitude of 2,822 m and offers views of the Vanoise glaciers and Grande Casse. Fort de la Turra is a hiking destination accessible from the Mont-Cenis Pass.

History

Fort de Malamot was built in 1889 at an altitude of 2,850 m to monitor the Mont-Cenis Pass and the Italian border. Only traces of the surrounding wall and the ruins of the defensive barracks remain. Fort de Malamot can be reached via a full-day hike and offers views of Lake Mont-Cenis.

Fort de la Turra was built between 1893 and 1900 to monitor the Mont-Cenis plateau at the French-Italian border. Fort de la Turra offers spectacular views of Lake Mont-Cenis, Italy, Val Cenis-Lanslebourg and Haute Maurienne Vanoise.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was built between 1820 and 1830, with a floor plan in the shape of a Greek cross and in the neoclassical style.

The Musée de la Pyramide du Mont-Cenis is one of the highest-altitude museums in Europe and is located at an altitude of 2,100 m. It presents the history of the Mont-Cenis Pass and local life, including transportation, villages and the dam that changed the area. The museum can be visited independently and without a guide.

Nature

The Jardin Alpin du Mont-Cenis features more than 100 species of alpine flowers and plants. It also offers a themed trail and numerous activities for families in summer.
