History

The present-day Eglise paroissiale Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Chevenoz was completed in 1894 and blessed in 1897. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross. The church was built at a different location; a first church in Chevenoz is documented as early as 1411.

The Centrale hydroélectrique de Chevenoz holds a special place in industrial history. It was commissioned on May 20, 1898, to supply Évian-les-Bains with electricity, and is located on the banks of the Dranse d'Abondance. In 1909, the installation of a pump, an alternating-current generator and a Pelton turbine made it France's first pumped-storage facility. It operated with a head of 400 meters.

The local religious history also includes the Chapelle Saint-François de Sales. It was built between 1868 and 1869 on the site of the former house of Abbé Vernaz.
