Hiking

The Sentier botanique d’Ardon begins above the centre of Châtillon-en-Michaille on the road to the Plateau de Retord. The hike takes 1.5 hours, is 2.6 km long and offers the opportunity to discover tree species from the region and elsewhere.

The Circuit de la Michaille follows the Chemin de la Combe de Vaux to Ardon, passing a quarry on the left. In clear weather, the circular route offers views of the Alps and the Jura.

The Tour des Prés is a 12 km run at the foothills of the Plateau de Retord; it passes through the hamlet of Ardon, after which the final kilometre follows the road downhill to the multipurpose hall.

Culture and History

The restored Chapelle Saint-Michel stands in Ardon, in the heart of the hamlet of Ardon, and is part of the heritage of the Pays bellegardien that is worth discovering.

At the beginning of the path to the Arboretum d’Ardon stand century-old trees planted by schoolchildren to raise money for their school.

The site of a former quarry in Ardon bears witness to the work of the hamlet’s stonecutters. The particularly hard stone blocks from the quarries of Ardon were worked by hand by villagers and then transported on horse-drawn trailers.
