The “EYGLIERS – Mont-Dauphin village fortifié” route is a very easy, 3.5-kilometre circular hike. If you are planning to stay in Eygliers, you can find a hotel there.
Things to do
Below the fortified village of Mont-Dauphin in Eygliers, there is a climbing area with more than 100 routes on conglomerate rock. Guided half-day or full-day excursions are offered there. The climbing area can be reached via an easy path from the car park.
At Eygliers’ leisure centre, La Vague Rafting offers rafting, canoeing, hydrospeed and kayaking activities. The Plan d'eau d'Eygliers covers 4 hectares and offers water-based activities. The fishing pier at the Plan d'eau d'Eygliers is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
On the Sentier des Marmottes, wild marmots can be observed at close range from a landscaped path.
Culture and History
The Saint-Antoine church houses the Eygliers cycle of the Pendu-dépendu legend of Saint James. It consists of five scenes and covers approximately one square metre.
The Saint-Antoine-de-Bouchet parish was founded around 1482; previously, it was subordinate to the mother church of Saint-Crépin. The quarry and spring at Eygliers made the construction of Mont-Dauphin fortress possible. The Plateau des Mille Vents, on which Mont-Dauphin was built, belonged to Eygliers at that time.
The Chapelle des Combattants is located on the road to the hamlet of La Font in Eygliers and is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. Its frescoes were created by Masson Sam and date from 2001. The Chapelle des Combattants overlooks the Durance Valley.
A route in the vicinity of Eygliers leads to Mont-Dauphin fortress. The fortress is considered an important example of European military architecture.
Geographical Location
The Mont-Dauphin–Guillestre SNCF railway station is located in Eygliers Gare. Eygliers can be reached via the N94 national road, which follows the Durance Valley. The village of Eygliers consists of 15 sunny hamlets and is located at the entrance to the Parc du Queyras.
