Culture

The Musée des Cagots is located in the Château des Nestes and features a permanent exhibition about the Cagots. The château has a square tower with a belvedere above it. It was a military and hospital building and served as a commandery.

The Maison des Lys was built at the end of the 16th century and is classified as a historic monument. Its main façade features half-timbering with lilies carved in relief. The Église Notre-Dame d’Arreau is also classified as a historic monument; it houses a 16th-century Pietà.

The Chapelle Saint-Exupère is classified as a historic monument. Its Romanesque porch dates from the 10th to the 12th century. The chapel, also called the Église Saint-Exupère, additionally has a Romanesque entrance from the 12th century with six columns and capitals decorated with figural motifs.

In summer, Arreau has numerous hiking trails for family walks. The Chemin du Plateau heritage trail begins at the Château des Nestes; along the circular route, information boards in Arreau provide details about the notable buildings. An open-air market takes place in Arreau on Thursdays. Organized by the Association Auroise, the Fête du Gâteau à la Broche was a popular festival held at the end of July in the Pays d’Arreau.
