The moderately difficult ski touring route Skirando-Marmottes starts in Saint-Aventin. The loop is 3.42 kilometres long and includes 650 metres of elevation gain. Superbagnères is also located within the municipality of Saint-Aventin, not within that of Bagnères-de-Luchon. The easy Skirando-Panoramique route offers an exceptional panorama of the highest peaks in the Pyrenees. A hiking route marked with the GR10 begins on the Superbagnères plateau and leads towards the mountain ridges.

Nature

The Chapelle de Saint-Aventin and its surroundings have been part of a protected area for natural and urban landscapes since 3 November 1944. The communal pastures on the Superbagnères plateau have also been part of a protected area for natural and urban landscapes since 27 April 1927. Part of the classified Vallée du Lys area lies within the municipality of Saint-Aventin.

Culture

The church of Saint-Aventin is a Romanesque pilgrimage church with two bell towers typical of the Pyrenees and houses the tomb of Saint Aventin. Its remarkable portal is decorated with sculptures; the historiated capitals depict scenes from the life and martyrdom of Saint Aventin. The church also contains remarkable wall frescoes.

A historic pilgrimage in honour of Saint Aventin took place on his feast day, 13 June, and attracted pilgrims from all parts of the Pyrenees and from Spain for centuries. The Chapelle et le pas de Saint-Aventin is associated with a slate slab whose elongated indentation is traditionally considered to be the hermit's footprint.

Paths

Above the village of Saint-Aventin are the cromlechs of the Espiau mountains. They can be visited on a walk of about one hour from the village. The graves at the cromlechs are dated to between 3000 and 2000 BC. The Tour du Plateau de Superbagnères is available for a challenging mountain biking loop: the 14.8-kilometre circular route with 534 metres of elevation gain starts and ends in Superbagnères.

La Chapelle in Superbagnères is a restored former chapel that is now operated as a mountain restaurant with a panoramic terrace.
