Trails and activities
Trail No. 25 starts at the Foyer du Montoncel in Lavoine. It is a 25.6 km-long trail recognised by the Fédération Française d’Athlétisme as a Uni’Vert Trail. The 21 km Mountain Bike loop No. 35, “La Découverte”, also starts at the Foyer du Montoncel. It leads through the Bois Noirs forest into the Sichon Valley and passes along the outskirts of Lavoine and the Rocher Saint-Vincent.
In summer, the Bois Noirs massif offers hiking, mountain biking, permanent orienteering and archery. The discovery trail starts at the Foyer du Montoncel car park and provides an on-foot introduction to the natural and human environment of the Bois Noirs. Mountain Bike route No. 88, “Le Pays des Pions”, leads from the Foyer du Montoncel or La Guillermie to Lavoine and showcases its forest heritage.
Landscape
At 1,287 m, Puy-de-Montoncel is the highest point in the Allier département. It can be reached on foot through the Bois Noirs forest and offers 360-degree views.
Rocher Saint-Vincent reaches an elevation of 932 m and offers views of the Chaîne des Puys and the Sichon Valley. It is a climbing area and is also home to the ruins of Château de Puyramont.
Étang du Charrais features a fitness trail, picnic tables, a lookout tower, a relaxation area and a roller-skating rink. Fishing is also possible there.
Culture
At the beginning of the 1990s, the municipality of Lavoine had a water-powered sawmill built as a faithful reconstruction of a water-powered sawmill that had previously existed in the municipality.
At the Musée du Bois et de la Forêt, visitors can explore the museum independently using smartphone QR codes and audio explanations for the individual exhibits. In the centre of Lavoine stands the water and ball clock. Audio explanations are available via a smartphone QR code.
