Coast and trails around Listed

Listed’s coastline is rocky and offers views across the Baltic Sea. The Listed hiking trail also offers views of the sea and rugged rocks rising out of the water. In midsummer, you can watch the sunset from the harbor. The harbor is used by fishers and recreational sailors and is sheltered from winds from every direction.

Two places are useful starting points for a hike: the Listed hiking trail begins at the parking lot opposite Listedgård, an old, four-winged half-timbered farm on Strandstien. Sporet i Listed, on the other hand, starts at a yellow box on a post in the parking lot by the harbor. These details help distinguish the trailheads without treating them as one shared circular route.

On Sporet i Listed, the trail crosses a stream and leads through the forest to the main road and onward to Bornholm’s oldest oak, said to be 300 years old. Another hike leads from the harbor to Randkløve Cleft, almost four kilometers north of Listed. The Listed hiking trail also offers the opportunity to look for edible plants selected for identification. It may be temporarily closed during hunting season; passage conditions may also vary seasonally.

Fishing and local history

Listed is first documented in the year 1379. At that time, the Archbishop of Lund promoted herring fishing by having six fishermen’s huts built in Listed. The history of fishing is still visible in the village today: the distinctive white chimneys of former smokehouses define Listed’s appearance. Most no longer serve their original purpose, but they are reminders of the centuries-old herring-smoking tradition that shaped village life.

Another building with a history of its own is the old waterworks on Sporet i Listed. Jørn Utzon designed it in 1951. Its hexagonal floor plan and roof covered in long grass clearly set it apart from the older half-timbered and smokehouse buildings described here. For those interested in architecture, it offers another specific point of interest on a tour of local history, alongside the history of fishing.

Listed’s harbor museum, Havnemuseet, tells the story of the village from medieval herring fishing to the present day. Visits are possible by appointment with the museum attendant. So plan your museum visit with the necessary arrangements rather than assuming you can enter without notice.

Other historical places nearby

The surrounding area adds to the historical picture, but these places should not be confused with Listed. Harald’s Harbour served as a secret departure point during the Second World War for Jews fleeing Bornholm. Brændesgårdshaven amusement park is about two kilometers from Listed. This approximate distance can help you plan an additional stop; it does not indicate how long a journey takes or what route it follows.
