Srbice: Hotels and Accommodation

Srbice combines an artificial water landscape with a multilayered local history. The Modlany Reservoir on the Modlanský potok is a significant landscape feature in the administrative area of Srbice. Particularly protected animal species have been recorded at Modlanský Pond and in its surroundings, including night herons, great crested grebes, nightingales, corn buntings, swifts and sand lizards.

Nature

The mountains Glaberův vrch, Scharspitze and Bouřňák are also located in the vicinity of Srbice. The different landscape features thus range from the body of water in the administrative area to the mountains in the immediate surroundings of the village.

History

The first documented written mention of Srbice dates from 1403. The older name Řeřevice is presumably associated with near-surface coal seams that could frequently ignite at their outcrops. The settlement, originally undermined by mining, has disappeared; the place names Staré Srbice and Nové Srbice are still used today.

The coal mines in Srbice employed around 600 miners in the first half of the 20th century. Road traffic and the nearby railway connection accelerated the industrial and mining development of Srbice.

Recreation

The already completed recreation zone in Nové Srbice offers opportunities for short-term daily recreation. Recreational development in Srbice is supported, among other things, by designated cycle paths and dedicated-purpose paths.

After several years, the Srbice Volunteer Fire Brigade revived the tradition of putting up a maypole in the village square by the chapel. On 30 April 2019, the volunteer fire brigades from Srbice organized a witch-burning celebration for children from Srbice and the surrounding area.

Culture

The ruins of Hrad Kysperk are located in the immediate vicinity of Srbice. The surroundings also include Hrad Střekov, a castle; the Osterzgebirge Wildlife Park, a zoo; Sukoslav, a ruin; and Osek Monastery.
