History and Cultural Heritage

The first written mention of Lahošť dates from the 14th or 15th century; at that time, the settlement belonged to Osek Castle, also known as Riesenburg. Lahošť’s protected heritage includes the water tower of Obří pramen in Na Vypichu.

Obří pramen was a thermal spring with a temperature of 25 to 38°C and a flow rate of 27 to 42 litres per second, which once powered a water mill. The stone water tower near Obří pramen was used by the Valdštejn family as a water reservoir; from there, water was conveyed through pipelines to the baths in Duchcov.
