Nature and landscape

The Tisovské Ponds provide a specific opportunity for birdwatching: up to 150 bird species can be spotted at the ponds. The nature reserve is located in the vicinity of Tisová and Jemnice. It protects a system of ponds and adjacent wetland ecosystems. Tisová lies in a flat landscape where meadows, forests and ponds shape the scenery. For observation at the water and in the adjacent habitats, binoculars and weather-appropriate clothing are part of the usual preparations. Birdwatching thus focuses on bodies of water and wetland habitats, while the flat landscape continues to be shaped by meadows, forests and ponds. Current information on observation conditions should be checked before the trip.

Transport and geographical surroundings

Tisová is located on road II/199. This road connects Tachov to the Nová Hospoda junction. The hill U Rozhledny [Tisová-Kumpolec] is located in the immediate vicinity. Mount Přimda and Mount Viči hora are situated in the vicinity of Tisová. Mount Knižeci Strom is part of the wider regional surroundings. The hill U Rozhledny [Tisová-Kumpolec] is therefore in the immediate vicinity, the mountains Přimda and Viči hora in the vicinity, and Mount Knižeci Strom in the wider regional surroundings of Tisová. For travel on road II/199, current traffic reports and, where applicable, the prevailing route conditions should be checked before departure. When travelling via a specific road, such current information is part of the usual preparations because traffic conditions and route conditions can change.

St. Nicholas Church

St. Nicholas Church preserves several construction phases. In the first half of the 18th century, it was built around an older medieval church; this older church remained part of the structure. The earlier church probably already stood in Tisová in the 13th century. It was built in the early Gothic style and structurally connected to a nearby fortress.

The entrance to the Born family crypt is located in the centre of the church. The crypt was used at the end of the 18th century. Next to the church stands a monument to 48 victims of the First World War. The wider regional surroundings of Tisová also include the historic site of Flossenbürg concentration camp and the Center of Europe monument. The crypt is part of the history of the church building, while the monument next to the church commemorates the victims of the First World War. Together with the two destinations in the wider regional surroundings, this historical connection thus extends from the medieval core of the building to the culture of remembrance.

Visiting and opening hours

St. Nicholas Church is normally closed and opens to the public only during services. For an individual visit, guests can inquire at the municipal office about the keys and arrange a guided tour of the church. Before travelling, current service times as well as the possibility of a guided tour and key handover should be checked with the municipal office. Current times should be confirmed before departure.

Other destinations in the surrounding regional area include Stráž, Přimda, Hošťka, Dubec, Částkov, Staré Sedliště, Rozvadov and Třemešné.
