The Krkonoš Museum in Vrchlabí is the visitor centre of Krkonoše National Park. A modern interactive exhibition presents the nature of the mountains and the lives of the people who live there; the centre also provides information about the national park and about excursions to the sights and natural beauty of the Krkonoše Mountains.
Nature
The Stezka vody educational trail route, accessible since 2023, passes renovated ponds and pools. Informative stations accompany the route, where living organisms can be observed both above and below the water's surface. The Ekocentrum Krtek also has a lecture hall for around 80 people, a small laboratory for 16 students, a small gallery and a library.
History and Trails
The Naučná stezka Vrchlabím educational trail route follows the banks of the Elbe and passes two churches and two museums. It ends in a castle park with rare trees and views of Vrchlabí Castle. The castle is a Renaissance castle completed in 1546; in summer, guided tours with commentary are offered there, also providing access to rooms and the chapel that are normally inaccessible.
St. Lawrence Church in Vrchlabí stands on the site of an originally Gothic single-nave church from the 14th century. The Augustinian monastery and the monastery church form a Baroque building complex protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The Krkonošské muzeum – Čtyři historické domky is an ensemble of four gabled houses in Vrchlabí, which are among the oldest folk buildings in the Krkonoše Mountains. The exhibition at the Krkonošské muzeum – Čtyři historické domky has been closed for two years since 1 May 2025 due to renovation work.
Water and Exercise
Aquacentrum Vrchlabí has a 25-metre swimming pool with four lanes. It also features a 32°C leisure pool with a current channel, massage loungers, whirlpool features, underwater jets, an indoor and outdoor whirlpool, and a steam sauna.
