The smaller Skiareál Velká Úpa ski area features one ski slope with a large vertical drop. The valley station of the Portášky cable car houses a ski school office, a rental shop, a testing centre and the SkiResort Live service.

Trails and Hiking

The Cesta horských nosičů trail begins at the valley station of the Portášky cable car in Velká Úpa. Along the route, information panels provide details about the history of mountain porters. Krakonošova zpovědnice comprises seven activity stations, including stations along the Old Road and in the centre of Velká Úpa. The route follows an easy trail from Pec pod Sněžkou to Velká Úpa.

Údolím Šramlu begins in Velká Úpa and follows a yellow-marked hiking trail to Portášky. At the mountain station of the Portášky cable car is Herní krajina Pecka, a unique collection of interactive wooden sculptures and objects featuring motifs from the fauna of the Krkonoše Mountains. A recommended walking excursion leads from Velká Úpa to Sněžka and can be completed with children if a cable car is used at least once.

Culture and History

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Velká Úpa is a spacious Neoclassical brick building. Its construction began in 1788, and the first mass could be celebrated there in 1789. Velké Tippeltovy Boudy are among the best-preserved ensembles of folk architecture in the Krkonoše Mountains and were designated a village heritage conservation zone in 2005.

A hiking route to Velká Úpa passes a Catholic chapel dating from 1877. Mountain House No. 282 is protected as a cultural monument.
