Břecštejn Castle was built in 1455 by the wealthy Zilvár family on a steep conglomerate rock. Today, only high walls of the actual castle remain; access is through former cellars. The ruins, formerly known as Silberštejn, are described by the municipality as its most widely known monument.

Culture

A second castle in Vlčice can now also only be identified by traces in the terrain. It belonged to a castle complex dating from the second half of the 13th century and was discovered in 1974. The Church of Saint Adalbert is a listed cultural monument dating from the late 13th century. The originally early Gothic church was rebuilt in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

The church complex includes a Renaissance entrance tower with a rectangular floor plan and two storeys. It stands on the south side of the cemetery wall and contains an entrance gate. The cemetery next to the church also contains an Empire-style tomb of former estate owners. A plaque on the façade of the complex commemorates J. A. Komenský and his stay in Vlčice in 1627. Vlčice Chateau completes the historical picture as a three-winged, two-storey building with a mansard roof.

Nature

The Luční potok v Podkrkonoší natural monument also extends into the cadastral area of Vlčice u Trutnova. It protects the population and habitat of the stone crayfish (Austropotamobius torrentium). Brook lampreys and bullheads are also found in the area.

Among the landscape-oriented destinations are the ponds in the Peklo recreational and holiday-home area. They can be reached away from the main road via field and forest paths. The Nebíčko pond should be accessible in dry weather without having to follow the road, provided it did not rain the previous day.

Cycle Paths and Routes

The Vlčice cycling circuit can be extended by climbing to Hrádeček and then descending on the road to Mladé Buky. The Komenský Route passes through Vlčice, past ponds, across meadows and over hilltops with views of the landscape. It is considered suitable for more experienced cyclists.

Another excursion route connects Hostinné with Hrádeček Nature Park and leads via Čermná and Vlčice. The different route options and landscape features help compare the routes by theme and desired course.
