For a ski holiday in Bludenz, various regional highlights come together: the Raggal ski area, the Muttersberg cable car, natural landmarks, cultural attractions and regional specialties.
Bludenz as the Center of a Mountain Region
The Vorarlberg Alpine Region is located in the far west of Austria and encompasses Brandnertal, the Alpine town of Bludenz, Klostertal and the Großes Walsertal Biosphere Reserve. Bludenz is the center of a mountain region with five valleys.
Raggal Ski Area and Mountain Destinations
The Raggal ski area has three surface lifts and seven kilometers of groomed slopes.
The Muttersberg cable car takes you up to Muttersberg at an altitude of over 1,400 meters. From Muttersberg, hiking routes lead to the Fraßenhütte and the summit cross of Hoher Fraßen. The hike to the summit of Gamsfreiheit offers views of Großes Walsertal, Klostertal and Montafon, as well as toward the Rätikon.
Nature Between Gorge, Protected Area and Educational Trail
Bürser Gorge offers rare insights into recent geological history and has an almost primeval-forest-like tree population. The route through the Bürser Gorge natural landmark, via Kuhloch and back to Bürs, takes around two hours. Bürser Gorge can be reached by Landbus L580 via the Bürs Dorfmitte or Bürserberg Gemeindeamt stops.
Großes Walsertal was recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in November 2000 and is considered a model region for sustainable living and economic activity. Threatened species such as the rock ptarmigan and lady's-slipper orchid find a habitat in the Gadental European protected area. The Verwall and Klostertal Mountain Forests European protected areas offer pristine nature and peaceful retreats in Klostertal, inviting visitors to hike and explore in summer.
Activities with Different Characteristics
Brandnertal Bikepark offers 30 kilometers of trails across eleven main routes with numerous variants. Its offering therefore differs from the Raggal ski area and the hiking opportunities on Muttersberg.
On Muttersberg, the Alpine Art Muttersberg circular trail combines mountain scenery with six stations designed by artists. The Silberpfad educational trail on Kristberg is 2.7 kilometers long, has twelve partly interactive stations and conveys the fascination of mining.
Culture and Regional Specialties
The Obere Tor forms the historic gateway to Bludenz's old town. The Rosenegg ruins are also located in the immediate vicinity of Bludenz District. The Frühmesshaus Museum presents exhibitions on the cultural history of Montafon and the history of the local community of Bartholomäberg.
The shop at biosphärenpark.haus sells regional products such as cheese and sausage specialties, as well as handicrafts. Walserstolz mountain cheese is produced exclusively in Großes Walsertal using traditional craftsmanship.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Desired Focus for the Day
When looking for a ski hotel in Bludenz, you should decide what you want to focus on during your days: Raggal stands for downhill skiing, Muttersberg for mountain and hiking activities, and Bürser Gorge for nature. The term ski hotel in Bludenz should therefore not automatically be equated with ski-in/ski-out access, accommodation located on a slope or a specific distance from a lift. A regional selection can be based on your preferred focus among skiing, mountain trails, nature, culture and regional cuisine.
For further regional orientation, you can also explore Damüls, Gaschurn, Klösterle, Lorüns, Sankt Anton Im Montafon, Nüziders, Fontanella, Silbertal, Raggal, Sankt Gallenkirch, Bürserberg, Braz, Gargellen, Sonntag, Thüringerberg, Tschagguns, Partenen, Ausserbraz, Lech, Brand, Stuben Am Arlberg, Blons, Innerbraz, Bürs, Vandans, Nenzing, Dalaas, Bludenz, Bartholomäberg and Schruns.
