Stockach/Bach: Accommodation between the Lech and the Alps

Stockach/Bach is a suitable starting point if you would like to combine accommodation with nature trails, mountain views and a range of experiences in the Lechtal. For a winter perspective, the Jöchelspitzbahn is an important point of reference: the gondola lift takes you from Stockach in the Lechtal up to an elevation of 1,800 metres. This elevation refers to the uphill journey, but does not demonstrate a particular piste location, snow reliability or a direct connection between accommodation and a ski area. If short distances to pistes or lifts are crucial for your skiing holiday, you should check these features separately for the specific accommodation.

Landscape between the Lech and the Alps

Stockach is located in the Tiroler Lech Nature Park at the foot of the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps. As a result, choosing a location is not only about the mountain railway, but also about the landscape around the Lech. Between the Jöchelspitze and the Bernhardseck, the area offers views of the nearby Allgäu rock peaks and the Lechtal Alps. For travellers with different interests, this combination provides a clear division: while mountain and high-altitude destinations define the alpine setting, the trails and natural areas in the valley remain independent destinations in their own right.

Hiking trails with specific starting points

The route to the Lechtaler Hexenkessel begins at the Stockach car park and is 1.85 km long. It first crosses the Lech via a wooden bridge and then climbs uphill through a shady forest.

Another connection is provided by the Lechweg. It partly follows wooden walkways through the scenic gem of Schigge and continues towards Stockach. The wooden walkways create a distinct character compared with the forest ascent to the Hexenkessel. If you choose accommodation in Stockach/Bach, you can consider these two trail characteristics separately rather than planning them as the same route.

The hike to the Sulzlalm starts at a car park on the Lechtalstraße, approximately near house number 8a, in Stockach. The staffed Sulzlalm is situated at 1,462 m and can be reached after around 1.5 to 2 hours of walking. Regional specialities invite you to stop and take a break there. The approximate walking time is deliberately intended as a guide; it is not an exact travel or arrival time.

Experiences for different interests

Nature spots in Bach and Stockach invite visitors to go hiking. The Bach-Stockach area also has a mountain hay museum, providing a cultural focus alongside the trails and mountain destinations. For active days beyond classic hiking, a rafting trip on the wild Tiroler Lech river is offered in the Bach and Stockach area as a special experience. A paragliding flight is also offered as a special experience. These activities differ significantly from one another and should therefore not be regarded as interchangeable.

Local events are also part of the offerings: in Bach and Stockach, local brass bands and traditional costume associations perform music and dances. An event takes place at the Stockach pavilion every Friday at 8:00 p.m. For a specific stay, you should check the date in advance to ensure it is still current, as event information can change.
