Hiking Trails and the Connection to Stuhleck

Marked walking and hiking trails lead into the alpine regions of Stuhleck, Pretul and Hochwechsel. The MĂĽhlenweg is considered a short hike. Another specific connection is provided by an alpannonia feeder route: from Rettenegg, it follows the Planet Trail up to Stuhleck, where you can join the main route. These offer different points of reference when choosing: trails towards the named alpine regions, a hike considered short, and a feeder route connecting to the main route. This lets you choose the type of hike that suits your plans without confusing the MĂĽhlenweg with the alpannonia connection.

The Planet Trail and Star Pavilion

The Planet Trail starts at the Star Pavilion, which depicts the northern summer sky with a total of 400 star points illuminated at night. From there, the trail leads to scale models of the planets inside glass spheres. The installation thus brings together two perspectives: the depiction of the starry sky at the pavilion and the planet models along the trail. If you are interested in astronomical displays, this combination is a distinct focus for your plans. The trail is also the route taken by the alpannonia feeder, which leads up to Stuhleck.

Forest Railway Exhibition and Local History

The exhibition “The Old Forest Railway” at the Rosinger Inn displays original plans at a scale of 1:1,000 and photographs of the former railway from Rettenegg to Steinhaus am Semmering. The scale can be understood in practical terms: one centimetre on the plan corresponds to ten metres in reality. The plans and photographs offer different ways to explore the historical subject, through the scaled-down depiction and the photographic material.

Another landmark is the “World’s Largest Stamp” in Rettenegg. It is two metres high and one metre in diameter. It was unveiled on 22 June 1997; its imprint shows the municipal coat of arms of Rettenegg. Rettenegg Parish Church is also a point of cultural and historical interest: it is dedicated to Saint Florian. The exhibition, stamp and church offer different ways to focus your plans on local history.

Moorland on Schwarzriegel

At Schwarzriegel, architecturally designed wooden walkways lead through the moor. Information boards and a viewing platform complement the walkways. Here, landscape and information go hand in hand: the walkways pass through the moor, while the boards and platform offer further points of interest during your stay. If you would like to include nature and interpretive features as well as hiking, you can consider this as a separate point of interest.

Swimming, Tours and Tastings

At the Rettenegg indoor swimming pool, you can swim a few lengths. This provides an indoor swimming option in addition to the hiking trails. If swimming is important to your plans, check the current opening hours before your visit.

Tours and tastings are offered at the trout farm and the Kroisleitner trout farm and inn. If you would like to include this offer in your plans, it is best to confirm the specific dates in advance. Swimming and tours with tastings are quite different activities; you can decide which one better suits your interests.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Plans

The places and activities mentioned offer different ways to plan a stay in Rettenegg: hiking trails with different route connections, astronomical displays, local history, moorland, as well as swimming, tours and tastings. First decide which of these themes matters most to you. This lets you focus your accommodation search on the activities you actually want to include in your trip plans.
