St. Wolfgang Church in Mönchegg

St. Wolfgang Parish Church is located in the hamlet of St. Wolfgang in Mönchegg at an altitude of 1,277 m at the foot of Zirbitzkogel. It was first mentioned in documents in 1612 as a subsidiary church of Obdach and has been an independent parish since 1787. The chancel is stylistically late Gothic; an exact construction date is not known.

The church was extended in the Baroque style in the 17th century. In the 18th century, the stucco decoration of the flat Platzl vault and the curved west gallery were added. Four small initiation chapels stand along the cemetery fence and are associated with prayers for protection from the weather and for fertility. Thus, in addition to its mountain landscape, the site also offers a cultural and historical focus.
