Hohentauern combines a diverse range of winter sports with marked trails, landscape experiences and insights into regional history. Alpine slopes, cross-country skiing and excursion destinations can thus be combined during a single stay.
  • Ski Hohentauern offers 11 km of slopes ranging from blue to red to black.
  • The “7 Heavenly Places” feature cloud benches with views of the natural landscape and places of tranquillity.
  • The Hohentauern Nature Adventure Park encompasses a plateau at over 1,000 metres, with mountain pastures, raised bogs and small lakes.
  • The “In the Footsteps of the Celts” quest trail combines an escape game, treasure hunt and puzzle trail.
  • The Celtic Mountain focuses on the life of the Celts in and with nature; the show mine commemorates the magnesite and graphite mining in Hohentauern.
  • The Hohentauern themed trail leads to ten stations providing information about history, inhabitants and the natural landscape.

Slopes and snow

The colours blue, red and black indicate different levels of difficulty.

The winter sports offering includes both natural-snow slopes and artificial snowmaking. Artificial snowmaking extends from the valley station to the mid-station. Both terms describe different foundations of the slope conditions. They do not indicate the current conditions or guaranteed snow coverage at all times.

Cross-country skiing and trails through the landscape

The Tauern cross-country ski trail complements the alpine offering with a dedicated cross-country skiing option. It begins at the valley station of Ski Hohentauern and is 14 km long. There is both a skating track and a classic track for the different techniques; the cross-country ski trail also bears the Styrian quality seal for cross-country ski trails. Around Lake Großer Scheibelsee, well-marked hiking trails lead through dense forests, where tall Swiss pines can repeatedly be seen. The lake is located in the Rottenmann Tauern at the foot of the Bösenstein in Hohentauern in the Murtal region.

Lake Großer Scheibelsee can be reached via the toll road to the Edelrautehütte and from there by a short hike. The “7 Heavenly Places” offer views as well as quiet places to relax. The Nature Adventure Park opens up a landscape of mountain pastures, raised bogs and small lakes, thus focusing on something different from the slopes and the cross-country ski trail.

History and experiences away from the slopes

The themed trail combines regional history with the natural landscape. Along the Water Trail, various adventure stations and a barefoot trail are part of the offering. The quest trail starts on the terrace of Mountain Adventure Golf and is aimed at visitors who want to combine historical topics with playful puzzles. At the Celtic Mountain, visitors gain insights into the life of the Celts in and with nature. The show mine commemorates the magnesite and graphite mining in Hohentauern. The tourist information office of the Murtal Adventure Region at the Hohentauern location provides advice on hiking and skiing experiences.

When choosing accommodation for a skiing holiday, the specific location details and direct access to the valley station, cross-country ski trail or hiking trails are decisive. This proximity cannot be inferred from the place name alone.
