Hiking Trails and Spazierhimmel

Werfenweng has 99 kilometres of hiking trails. The Spazierhimmel Werfenweng is a twelve-kilometre network of walking paths. These are two different ways of getting around: hiking and walking. If you like to plan your days on foot, you can use this distinction as a starting point. Check local conditions before setting out on a specific hike.

Outdoor Winter Activities

Werfenweng has local cross-country ski trails at the foot of the Tennengebirge mountains. Cross-country skiing is seasonal; check current trail conditions before planning. You can also go tobogganing in Werfenweng in the evening, thanks to lighting. Check in advance whether tobogganing is available on your travel dates.

The KID'S Snowpark has eight themed runs and is designed for families. Another winter highlight is the 1,840-metre-high Bischling, which attracts paragliding enthusiasts in winter. Bischling also offers a 360-degree mountain panorama. Paragliding is weather-dependent; check flight conditions and operator information in advance.

Churches, Pilgrimage, and Ski History

The Church of the Nativity of Mary in the town centre was consecrated in 1509. The Catholic parish church of Mariae Geburt in Werfenweng is listed as a protected monument in the Salzburg monument register dated 30 June 2025. A small spring lies about 100 metres from the church and is still popular with pilgrims. The wayside shrine known as the Ursprungskapelle Weng, near Werfenweng, is also listed as a protected monument in the Salzburg monument register dated 30 June 2025.

The Salzburg FIS State Ski Museum traces the development of skiing, from its beginnings around 5,000 years ago to modern ski racing. If you are planning a museum visit, check current access arrangements separately.

Town Centre and Agriculture

Dein Berg, right in the town centre of Werfenweng by the Dorfbahn Rosnerköpfl, offers action, relaxation, and good food for the whole family. The agriculture-themed trail uses lovingly illustrated, easy-to-understand information boards to explain life on and around the farm, as well as the work of farmers. Alongside exercise and winter activities, it offers a glimpse into rural life.

At the Werfenweng farm shop, local farmers offer products they have made themselves. If you plan to visit, check the current opening hours beforehand.

Getting Here and Finding Accommodation

The W3 Shuttle was developed as public transport for the last mile between Bischofshofen railway station, a transport hub, and the tourist community of Werfenweng. Check the current route and booking conditions before travelling.

When looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether walking trails, seasonal activities, culture, or getting here is the main priority for your trip. This lets you compare options based on your own preferences.
