In winter, Radstadt offers several ways to combine activity and a stay: skiing in the Radstadt–Altenmarkt area, a six-kilometre toboggan run, cross-country skiing to Untertauern and winter hiking. Choosing your hotel is therefore easier if you know where you want to start. Accommodation in the town centre suits a different location preference than a place you choose mainly for a planned winter activity.

Skiing and tobogganing at Königslehen

The Radstadt–Altenmarkt ski area has a Funslope and a beginner park in Radstadt. Fichtelland, by contrast, is partly in Altenmarkt; bear this in mind when choosing a meeting point. The two Radstadt facilities complement the ski slopes; check which lifts and facilities are currently open before your visit. The name “beginner park” does not guarantee that all slopes are suitable for beginners.

The Königslehen toboggan run in Radstadt is six kilometres long. The mountain railway takes you to the start of the run, which combines straight sections, gliding stretches and numerous bends. If you are planning a day of tobogganing, check the current operating status of the railway and run. Staying at an address in Radstadt does not in itself provide direct access to the starting point.

Cross-country skiing and ski touring uphill

A cross-country ski trail leads from Radstadt to Untertauern through gently rolling terrain. This route provides a specific geographic reference for planning your outing: compare your preferred starting point with your accommodation address and check the current trail-grooming status.

There is also an uphill track for ski tourers at the Königslehenbahn, leading to Kemahdhöhe. This is a different offering from the trail to Untertauern. Check local regulations and whether the route is currently open before setting out.

Winter hiking in the valley and to Bürgerbergalm

Away from the ski slopes, Radstadt has a well-maintained network of marked winter hiking trails. Options range from a leisurely stroll in the valley to a hike to Bürgerbergalm. Choose a route that suits your schedule and the winter conditions at the time.

Around Radstadt, a total of 20 kilometres of cleared winter hiking trails and snowshoeing routes are listed. The kilometre figure refers to the winter hiking trails; it is not an additional length stated for every snowshoe tour. Before setting out, check which routes are accessible on the day of your visit.

Rail travel and a seasonal extra

Radstadt station is a long-distance rail stop. From there, it is about a ten-minute walk to the town centre. Check current train connections for your travel dates; the stated walking time applies to the route to the town centre, not to every hotel.

A seasonal extra is the Radstadt Nativity Trail, featuring 25 illuminated nativity scenes created by nativity-scene makers from Radstadt and the surrounding area. It is laid out as a circular route. Check the specific visiting dates if you would like to include it in a winter stay.
