Irenental offers opportunities for a trip that combines cultural history with outdoor activities. Highlights include the Maria Schnee parish church, the Tullnerbach cultural trail, the Troppberg core zone, and several cycling and hiking routes. Archery, talks, workshops and seminars are also part of the offering. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether you mainly want to visit cultural sites, take a particular tour or include archery in your plans. Routes vary in mode of travel, length, elevation gain and stated duration.

Church, Cultural Trail and Local History

The Irenental Maria Schnee parish church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Its patronal feast is “Maria Schnee” (Our Lady of the Snows) and is associated with 5 August. The church was built between 1900 and 1901 as a hall church. Both its specific architectural type and the period in which it was built can help orient visitors interested in the history of the area.

The Tullnerbach cultural trail starts in Irenental and continues along the Karl-Ritter-Weg. Its first stop is at Wundererplatz in Irenental. The square is named after Alexander Wunderer (1877–1955), an oboist with the Imperial and Royal Court Opera Orchestra and a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. This connects a stop on the cultural trail with a musician whose career encompassed both the Court Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic.

In the wider area around Irenental lies the ruin of the Sancta Maria in Paradyso monastery, on the edge of the Tullnerbach municipal area and on the border with Sieghartskirchen. Remains of the nave and choir have been preserved from the former monastery church. The ruin adds another cultural site to the history of the area, specifically located in the wider surroundings of Irenental.

Troppberg: Landscape and Routes

The Troppberg core zone is located in Irenental, west of Gablitz, and covers around 565 hectares. This rounded figure gives an indication of the size of the landscape area. The Irenental–Ameisberg–Troppberg hiking route is a notable option: it continues as far as Strohzogl and has a stated duration of 2½ hours. Seasonal conditions may affect how practical the route is, so take them into account when planning.

The available information also varies between cycling routes. The family cycling route, Troppberg Route 2, passes through Irenental and is 22.1 kilometres long, with 320 metres of elevation gain. Troppberg Route III is a mountain biking tour covering 19.46 kilometres with 473 metres of elevation gain; it is rated moderate. Its course follows IrenentalstraĂźe and TroppbergstraĂźe uphill to Ameisberg, then continues to the Troppberg.

Troppberg Route 2 is longer but has less elevation gain than the Troppberg Route III mountain biking tour. Together with the route type and difficulty rating, this offers a more useful basis for comparison than distance alone. Conditions and surfaces on the family cycling route may change; check them before setting out.

Archery and Activities

The Naturaktiv Centre is home to one of Austria’s largest archery facilities. It includes a practice range, a course facility and three different 3D courses. Visitors who want to make archery a specific part of their stay will find several different facilities within the complex described here. Check operating conditions before visiting.

The Irenentaler Stadl is a welcoming starting point for a variety of activities. Talks, workshops and seminars take place at the Stadl and outdoors. If you would like to attend a particular event, check the relevant dates. This lets you plan your stay around a specific event as well as cycling tours, hikes and cultural sites.

Another route to note is the Tullnerbach–Irenental connecting path: it reaches Irenental via Klostergasse after descending from a forest road. This route description complements the information about tours on the Troppberg with a separate route leading towards Irenental.
