Tullnerbach-Lawies can be explored from various angles: historicist villas define Lawies, the cultural trail leads to stops in the town, and the surrounding area of Wienerwaldsee offers paths and recreational activities. Travelling by train also plays a role in reaching the starting point of the “Tut Gut!” step trail.

Historicist Villas in Lawies

Lawies is defined by a remarkable collection of historicist villas dating from 1875 to 1910, with their large gardens. Historicist architecture draws on forms from older architectural styles. Between 1870 and 1900, 45 villas, a hotel and two commercial buildings were built in upper Lawies.

Cultural Trail and Historic Buildings

The Tullnerbach cultural trail includes a stop dedicated to Richard Genée at the corner of Egererstraße and Genéestraße. Another stop is Professor-Rudolf-Pleban-Park.

The Norbertinum is also part of the area's architectural history. From 1881, it was built as an extensive, four-winged historicist complex. It served as a teaching and educational institution run by the Catholic Orphan Aid Association and was managed by the Congregation of the De La Salle Brothers. Its architectural form and former use each tell a different part of its history: the four wings describe the complex, while its institutional function explains its purpose at the time.

The former Tullnerbach municipal office is a listed building and once housed the municipal administration, post office and gendarmerie under one roof. The building contains a historic meeting room, restored murals and a former gendarmerie detention cell. These former public functions complement the architectural details that characterise the town.

Railway and Step Trail Route

Tullnerbach-Pressbaum railway station is located in the village of Tullnerbach-Lawies in the Wiental. The original Tullnerbach station building has not survived. Knabstraße by the station remains the actual centre of Lawies-Tullnerbach. These landmarks help place the station and the settlement's history in context.
