Local History and Art Nouveau Church

The Pressbaum Local History Museum was officially opened on 1 May 2025 on the third floor of the town hall. Its permanent exhibition is dedicated to the development of Pressbaum. The “Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Jubiläums-Pfarrkirche” offers a different cultural perspective: it is the only Art Nouveau church in Lower Austria and was consecrated on 21 June 1908. These provide two distinct ways to explore the history of the town. The museum focuses on Pressbaum’s development, while the church can be viewed in terms of its architectural style and historic consecration date.

Hiking Trails, Cycling Network and Kaiserbründl

Pressbaum maintains numerous hiking trails through the beech forest. One specifically named route is the “Tut Gut!” hiking route Pressbaum, Route 1. It starts at Pfalzauer Kirchenweg and leads through the characteristic Vienna Woods, with their diverse flora and fauna. The starting point and the landscape described give you specific reference points for understanding this hiking route.

A cycling network is also among the options mentioned for an active trip. The two activities can be distinguished by mode of transport: for hiking, there are trails through the beech forest and a named route; for cycling, Pressbaum has a network. The spring structure at the source of the Wienfluss in Pressbaum has been called “Kaiserbründl” since a visit on 23 April 1882. This brings together a connection to the Wienfluss and a history behind the name. The Wienerwaldsee is a reservoir and the largest still body of water in the Vienna Woods. A reservoir is created by impounding water, which distinguishes it from the Kaiserbründl, the source of the Wienfluss in Pressbaum. A spring is the natural emergence of water from underground, whereas a lake is a body of stored water.
