Vösendorf combines castle history and cycling culture with nativity scene making, events and opportunities to spend time outdoors. When choosing accommodation in Vösendorf, these different attractions can guide your plans: would you like to explore architectural history, learn about a craft or plan a seasonal visit? Some attractions have specific opening times or registration requirements that you should take into account before your visit.

Castle History and Cycling Culture

Vösendorf Castle was first built around 1200. Its present appearance dates back to the 17th century; the castle is set amid Vösendorf Castle Park. This brings two distinct points in time into focus: the castle’s original construction and its later form. The park adds a local landscape setting to the historical context.

The Vösendorf Castle Bicycle Museum opened in 2000. Its exhibition comprises four sections: the development of the bicycle, technical rarities, the cycling department and bicycle culture. This structure considers the bicycle not only as a technical object, but also in relation to sport and culture. The Peter Jordan Memorial Room commemorates the life and work of agricultural pioneer Peter Jordan (1751–1827).

The Bicycle Museum is open for visits on the first Saturday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m., as well as by appointment. Check in advance whether these visiting options are currently available. This makes it easier to fit a museum visit into your stay without relying solely on a particular monthly date.

Nativity Scene Making and Craftsmanship

The Vösendorf Nativity Scene Association organizes its own courses, where you can learn the craft of making nativity scenes. The examination to become a master nativity scene maker is a separate matter: it has been available at the Lower Austria Nativity Scene Making School since 2004. These two details show different aspects of the subject—practical training in the craft and a separately designated examination.

Groups of ten or more are welcome at the 1st Lower Austrian Nativity Scene Museum by prior arrangement. If you are planning a group visit, register in advance. The minimum group size and advance registration both apply. This group policy alone does not establish visiting conditions for smaller groups or individual visitors; check the current options in advance.

Trail, Church and Chapel

City Hiking Trail 12 passes through Vösendorf and is marked on the mobile city map. If you would like to combine a stay in the town with a walk outdoors, this offers a specific point of reference for planning. Check in advance whether the mobile city map service is available.

The parish church also offers a clear historical point of reference: it is a hall church dating from 1628 and was rebuilt in 1686. Vösendorf Castle Chapel is open to visitors during the municipal office’s usual opening hours. Before visiting, check which visiting options are currently available. This allows you to consider the two church buildings in light of their different construction histories without assuming that their visiting conditions are the same.

Events and Seasonal Lido

The KulturGewölbe, with capacity for 100 people, regularly hosts events such as cabaret, musicals, concerts and readings. The program thus ranges from stage performances and music to readings. If you would like to combine your stay with an event, check the specific dates in advance.

Vösendorf Lido is open to season-ticket holders from 1 May to 30 September. Visitors can buy day tickets, but may enter the pond area only when accompanied by season-ticket holders. A day ticket alone is therefore not sufficient to enter the pond area. Plan your visit around this accompaniment requirement and check the seasonal conditions before travelling.
