Discover La Cortinada
Accommodation in La Cortinada
La Cortinada can be explored through nature interpretation and culture. The Centre de Natura de la Cortinada, the church of Sant MartĂ and the Les Claus trail offer different perspectives on local history and nature. Winter sports, which also help visitors plan their trips, are available in the wider destination of Ordino.
Nature at the Centre de Natura
At the Centre de Natura de la Cortinada, interactive exhibits bring nature to life for the senses. These include birdsong and scents, as well as the diversity of fauna, vegetation and flora. The focus on nature therefore encompasses both sensory experiences and different aspects of the living environment. This is a distinct point of interest when exploring La Cortinada, alongside the town’s historic sites: those interested in nature will find a different theme here than at the church or on the Les Claus trail.
Sant MartĂ and the Les Claus trail
The church of Sant Martà de la Cortinada was reoriented to face north in the 16th century. Its new high altar was adorned with a polychrome wooden altarpiece from the 17th century, dedicated to the church’s patron saint. These details highlight different aspects of the church: the change in its orientation and the design of the altar.
The Les Claus de la Cortinada trail links Cal Pal, the church of Sant MartĂ, the mill and the sawmill with other facilities and points of interest in the town. Its stops convey the history and former way of life in the valleys. The trail thus provides a broader picture of the town, while the details of Sant MartĂ can also be explored individually. When choosing what interests you, you can distinguish between visiting a single building and gaining an overview of several historic sites.
The wider destination of Ordino
Activities in Ordino may also be relevant to your travel plans; however, they belong to the wider destination and should not be considered features of La Cortinada. On the evening of 28 June, Ordino celebrates the start of summer and its parish festival of Sant Pere by lighting the falles and burning the mai de Sant Pere. This annual festival has a fixed date in the calendar, while the routes and winter sports described below appeal to other interests.
In Sorteny Nature Park, the self-guided Camà de la marta is 500 metres long and has ten interpretation stops, running from the park’s information hut to the botanical garden. The Camà del Grau de la Llosa is 400 metres long and also has ten interpretation stops, following the Sorteny River from the forest road to the botanical garden. Both routes have the same number of stops, but differ in their stated length and described course. Check local conditions before setting out. In the forest of l’Esquella d’Ordino, the Bosc Viu walk introduces children aged three and over to the legend of the Tió de Nadal through specially themed trees.
For winter sports, Ordino ArcalĂs offers more than 30 kilometres of skiable terrain within the ski area, with runs ranging from beginner to expert level. It also has five marked ski touring circuits totalling eleven kilometres. This describes the facilities at Ordino ArcalĂs, not the location or amenities of accommodation in La Cortinada. If runs or ski touring are important to your trip, check the ski area’s current operating conditions and rules before using them.
Choose accommodation based on your interests
When looking for accommodation in La Cortinada, you can first consider whether you want to focus mainly on the town’s nature and cultural attractions or also include activities in the wider destination of Ordino. Sant Martà and Les Claus offer different historical perspectives, while the Centre de Natura has its own focus on nature. Routes, festivals and winter sports in Ordino add to this overview, but remain activities in the wider destination. Search according to where you want to stay, and treat winter sports activities as a separate part of your planning.
