Lake and Music Festival in the Tegernsee Ski Holiday Region

Lake Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps lies at the foot of Wallberg (1,722 m) and Setzberg (1,706 m). The picturesque mountain landscape is only about an hour's drive from Munich. It has no peaks over 3,000 metres to offer. But varied cross-country ski trails, alpine pistes and cosy Bavarian après-ski attract ski holidaymakers. Winter sports have a long tradition in the holiday paradise of Tegernsee. There are also extensive opportunities for leisure activities.

Snowshoe hikers experience the fascinating tranquillity and solitude of the ski holiday region. Even in summer, you can sense the charm of remote areas.

For sports enthusiasts, there is, of course, plenty of action at Lake Tegernsee. One of Germany's longest toboggan runs starts at Wallberg. A toboggan ride over around 6.5 km takes about 30 minutes. Hot-air ballooning, hang gliding, gliding and paragliding are exciting too. Or beach volleyball, mountain biking, boating, ice skating, ice sailing, golf, climbing, Nordic walking, tobogganing and hiking. And, of course, swimming in outdoor pools, the lake and heated pools.

Mountain huts, beer gardens and gourmet restaurants offer delicious treats as a reward. Night owls can also enjoy après-ski.

Cultural highlights also draw visitors to Lake Tegernsee. For example, the International Oleg Kagan Music Festival in picturesque Wildbad Kreuth. Talented young artists and outstanding ensembles and soloists perform chamber music through 11 July.

Forest and lake festivals are also an invitation to join in, with delicious food, live music and dancing, a children's programme, display flights by hang gliders and paragliders, and torch swimmers. Hundreds of illuminated boats on Lake Tegernsee make a fascinating sight during the brilliant fireworks display.

The Rottach-Egern lake festival begins on 15 July. The forest festival in the Butterfly Garden follows at Tegernsee Castle (18 to 20 July). The Tegernsee lake festival takes place on 30 July.

On 31 August, the Rosstag celebrates its 40th anniversary in Rottach-Eggern. A procession of around 200 decorated horses and carriages makes its way to the Enterrottach festival meadow. There, spectators can enjoy the driving display—and, no doubt, delicious treats too.
