On the eve of the upcoming ski season, the world's leading guides make their ratings of the best ski resorts. In Europe, one of the main evaluators is German ADAC motor guide. According to ADAC the best ski resort in Europe is the town of Schladming located in the Austrian federal state of Styria.
The method of determination of the best ski resort of ADAC is simple. The company polls dozens of ski instructors with a request to name the title of the best resort in Europe. The largest number of points were given to Schladming and ski slopes at the resort on the Planai peak. Schladming shared the first place with the German ski resort of Obrestdorf.
Today Schladming is among the ten best ski resorts in Austria. It is positioned as a center for winter entertainment, skiing and extreme sports. The opening of the ski season, which should take place on December 4, 2010, will be attended by a pop star Kesha and rockers One Republic.
As noted by the Internet edition austriantimes.at, Schladming is very popular in Austria. Thus, the competition in the night downhill, which in January 2010, was broadcasted by the Austrian television, gathered more viewers than any other ski tournament in Austria. It is expected that this season Schladming will also host the "Night Slalom". On January 25, 2011 at the resort will be held night slalom women competitions. In addition, Schladming was chosen to host the Alpine Skiing World Cup 2013.
The fact that Schladming has become one of the major centers of extreme sports in Austria is backed by the number of snowboard competitions held here. So, on November 19, 2010 here finished a stage of the prestigious tournament Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour.
Schladming is considered as the main ski resort of Styria. The main part of the ski slopes of Schladming is situated on the Planai peak. In the vicinity of the resort is located one of the largest ski glaciers of Austria - Dachstein, where trails are open for at least 7 months per year.
