Schladming

Planai, Hochwurzen and the focus on winter sports

A cable car runs from Planet Planai up to Planai. The racing history is also rooted in the townscape. The Planai Stadium was the finish stadium for the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1982 and 2013. The World Cup Trail follows the skiing history of the Planai ski area and leads to starting points and important sections of the Alpine ski races at the 2013 Ski World Championships. The Schladming Bike Park complements the town’s sporting character with 42 kilometres of mountain bike trails, creating an independent focus for activities outside alpine racing.

Family attractions and nature trails

Hopsiland Planai is the highest playground in Styria. Two themed circular trails run there, with a total length of around 4 kilometres. Together with the ascent to over 1,800 metres, this creates a clearly defined destination for a shared outing with children, without implying a general statement about other family attractions or the suitability of every accommodation option. The Wilde Wasser themed trail combines a connection to nature with information. Its first section runs through the Talbach Gorge in Schladming. At the beginning of the gorge, the Talbach Gorge loop also includes a viewing platform above the Talbach.

The Schladming Town Museum is located in the Bruderladehaus. The building is considered an impressive, unique architectural monument with centuries-old character; inside the museum, a Bruderladenzimmer has been preserved almost unchanged. In addition, the Salzburg Gate is the last remaining of Schladming’s once three town gates. This means that the town contains several independent examples of its history, distinct in subject from winter sports. In Obertal near Schladming, the Knappenweg and the Schmelzofen circular trail follow historic mining paths. The Hopfriesen Nickel Museum presents the history of mining in a historic building.
