Wine and Landscape

Gilly remains one of the canton’s more important wine-growing municipalities and is known for the quality of its Chasselas. Château Saint-Vincent has also remained connected with vines and wine over time.

History and Cultural Heritage

Gilly’s history dates back to the 12th century; “Iusliaco” appears as an early form of the name, followed later by “Gillie”.

The Sallenove family founded the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Gilly in 1299; it was demolished in 1882.

Château Saint-Vincent was first mentioned in 1172. Gilly is also home to Campagne de Beaulieu and Château de Vincy, which are classified as Category A cultural heritage sites.

The present Château de Vincy was built in 1724 by the Vasserot family in the classical style. The poet Alphonse de Lamartine stayed there for about a hundred days in 1815.

Paths and Fountains

Numerous paths and trails cross Gilly’s forest and vineyards and are suitable for walkers of different ages and abilities. In Gilly and in the hamlet of Vincy, five fountains provide walkers with fresh water from communal springs.
