History

Rolle is considered the birthplace of Frédéric-César de la Harpe. He was tutor to Alexander I of Russia and was involved in the independence of the canton of Vaud.

Rolle was first documented in 1294 under the name Rotuli. Later historical forms of the name include Ruello and Ruelloz.
