Winter
At the Gluringen ski lift, there is a T-bar lift, a small drag or pony lift, a sledding slope and a winter hiking trail. This gives you various forms of winter activity side by side: riding the lifts, sledding and winter hiking. The T-bar lift and the small drag or pony lift represent two different lift options, while the sledding slope and winter hiking trail offer separate possibilities away from lift skiing. The desired form of activity is therefore the key difference when making your personal choice.
When choosing a hotel in Reckingen, base your comparison on the travel period, room category and cancellation conditions. These three details provide an objective framework for selecting accommodation; winter activities, the Erlebnis Trail and cultural attractions remain separate aspects of the destination.
Nature
The Reckingen–Gluringen Erlebnis Trail is a 12.2-kilometre circular route that can also be walked in sections. This combines a complete circular route with the option of choosing individual sections. For planning your walk, the length and the sections can be considered two different characteristics, without limiting the circular route to a single way of walking it.
Apart from the Blinnental valley, the Reckingen–Gluringen Erlebnis Trail is open and accessible on foot. It incorporates themes into the landscape and therefore appeals to the senses. The trail description thus combines an accessible circular route with thematic design and a connection to the landscape.
Getting There
Regional trains operated by the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway take you from Brig to Reckingen in 1 hour and 3 minutes. This provides a specific connection between Brig and Reckingen with a stated travel time for the journey. The rail connection is a separate aspect of getting there alongside the winter, nature and cultural themes.
Culture
Reckingen is the oldest mountain village in Goms. The church in Reckingen dates from 1743 to 1745 and is considered the most significant baroque ecclesiastical building in Upper Valais. It stands on Furkastrasse, which separates the Upper Village from the Lower Village.
The interior of the church is richly coloured. The plastered barrel vault is decorated with stucco and paintings; two side altars and the high altar are located on the eastern wall of the raised choir. The furnishings therefore encompass both the design of the vault and the arrangement of the altars in the raised choir.
The Stalen Chapel stands on a small larch-covered plateau at the entrance to the Blinnental valley. Above the entrance door, a niche contains a copy of a statue of the Madonna by Johann Ritz. The painting on the outer wall of the choir of the Stalen Chapel depicts two angels carrying a cross.
In Reckingen, you can visit the lovingly renovated sawmill, the mill, the bell foundry, the bakehouse and the washhouse. These craft buildings complement the ecclesiastical attractions with several historic sites of work and supply. Among the cultural attractions, you can distinguish between the construction period and status of the Reckingen church, its interior furnishings, the motifs at the Stalen Chapel and the craft buildings open to visitors.
The parish of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Gluringen was founded in 1920. During the restoration of the parish church of the Holy Trinity in Gluringen in 1912, Josef Heimgartner added new figurative and architectural paintings. Thus, in Gluringen, both the founding of the parish and the later-mentioned restoration work with the new paintings are central features.
