Unterschächen is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Uri and lies in the rear part of the Schächen Valley in Uri. The mountain features that form or are connected to the municipal boundaries include the prominent alpine boundaries of Schächentaler Windgellen to the north, Klausen Pass to the east, and Gross Windgällen, Ruchen and the Schärhörner to the south. The municipality includes the hamlets of Urigen, Schwanden, Brunni and Klausen Pass, as well as scattered settlements, alpine settlements and individual farms.
