Mountain landscape
Stöckli, Tristelstock and Rienzenstock are located in the immediate vicinity of Göschenen. The Riental is a very steep valley within the municipality and is bordered to the east by the mountain range comprising Schijenstock, Bächenstock and Rienzenstock.
Göschenen and Göscheneralp are associated with active recreation, sensory experiences and educational activities in a mountain landscape. The Göscheneralp Valley has been developed for alpine hiking; within the municipality, it is home to five SAC mountain huts and a bivouac.
Culture and History
Göschenen is characterised by the strong heritage of the Gotthard tunnels and its pronounced identity as a transport infrastructure location. The village repeatedly attracted national attention because of the Gotthard railway tunnel and the Gotthard road tunnel.
