Culture

The Tell Museum is housed in the Wattigwilerturm, a medieval defensive tower, and has been operated there since 1966. Its collection preserves historical and artistic documents and objects, as well as traditional depictions of William Tell and the founding history of the Swiss Confederation. On display are paintings, etchings, coins and books about William Tell, editions of Schiller’s drama, and information about the historical and social conditions behind the Tell myth. The collection also includes works by the Basel painter Ernst Stückelberg, which are connected with the Tell frescoes in the Tell Chapel on Lake Uri.
