History

Wangs was first documented in a deed dated 17 October 841. A deed from the year 980 records the donation of the village of Berau with the chapel in Uuanga to Einsiedeln Abbey; Uuanga is identified therein as Wangs.

A documented late medieval history of border disputes between Wangs and Vilters over the Valeis Gorge is connected with damage to St. Medard Church; it was rebuilt by Pfäfers Abbey in 1785. Wangs's historical religious heritage also includes the long-standing influence of Pfäfers Abbey and pastoral care provided by the parish of Mels.
