Flumserberg: Winter Trails and Cross-Country Skiing in the Mountains

Winter activities at Flumserberg

Carving and sled dog rides are also possible in the Flumserberg ski area. The Swiss Ski School Flumserberg offers ski and snowboard lessons for children, teenagers and adults of all ability levels. During the day, ski touring is permitted only on Spiga piste No. 1 between Tannenheim, Spiga and Prodkamm. A ski touring route is available to ski tourers on the groomed and signposted Spiga piste.

For sledging, there is a 3 km moderately difficult run from Prodalp to Tannenheim. Three officially signposted snowshoe routes at Flumserberg cover a total of 11 km. The SwitzerlandMobility Plattis snowshoe trail No. 730 is an easy 3 km circular route starting and ending in Panüöl; the easy SwitzerlandMobility Panüöl–Prodalp snowshoe trail No. 731 runs for 4 km from Panüöl to Prodalp.

A marked 2 km skating trail is open at Alp Tannenboden and may also be used by dogs and their owners. The different trail lengths and difficulty ratings make it easier to compare short loops, longer connections and moderately difficult options.

Mountain Trails and Landscape

The Flumserberg hiking area has more than 150 km of hiking trails high above Lake Walen. The winter hiking trail network covers 35 km and offers views of the Spitzmeilen area, the Churfirsten and Lake Walen.

The Seven Summits Tour starts at Maschgenkamm and leads over seven summits back to Tannenboden. The Ziger circular route also starts at Maschgenkamm and is suitable for pushchairs. The Alpine Flora Trail at Flumserberg showcases the diversity of special Alpine plants and the region’s botanical treasures.

The Tannenboden–Seebenalp trail leads to three mountain lakes surrounded by fir trees near Seebenalp. Haus Margess in Flumserberg Portels is situated amid mountain meadows at an elevated location on Flumser Kleinberg in the Seez Valley.

Getting There and Orientation

The SeeJet 8-person gondola lift connects Unterterzen directly with Tannenboden. Postbuses run from Sargans railway station or from Flums directly to Flumserberg, as far as the valley stations in Tannenheim or Tannenboden.

Haus Margess in Flumserberg Portels can be reached by postbus, coach or private car; a large car park is available at the house.

More Mountain Experiences

The FLOOMZER summer toboggan run is over 2 km long, descends 250 metres in altitude and reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h. BikerBerg Flumserberg offers four mountain bike trails: the easy BlueSalamander and BlueBunny routes, as well as the moderately difficult RedFox and RedRock trails.

A mountain bike trail starts on the Prodalp plateau next to the mountain station of the Prodalp-Express at 1,576 m and leads over 3.8 km to Tannenheim at 1,220 m. On the Rohan Red Deer Adventure Trail at Flumserberg, children help Rohan the red deer and Spiro the woodpecker brew a magic potion for Mungg Flumsi.

The adventure golf course on the Prodalp plateau has 12 holes and original obstacles. The CLiiMBER climbing tower is 15 m high and has more than 100 climbing stations across three levels.

Culture and Alpine Farming

At 15 stations, the GeoGallery Flumserberg explains how the Alps were formed and displays impressive artworks from the Sardona UNESCO World Heritage Site.

At the traditional cheese dairy of the Flumserberg Alpine Dairy, visitors can make their own cheese over an open fire under expert guidance. In summer, at an altitude of 1,399 m, the Flumserberg Alpine Dairy processes Alpine products such as cheese, yoghurt and fondue mixtures.
