Winter and mountain scenery
Corviglia offers impressive mountain panoramas as well as a variety of hiking trails and ski slopes. St. Moritz is surrounded by high mountains and deep mountain lakes. In the Engadin St. Moritz region, more than 580 kilometres of hiking trails extend across the area, suitable for mountain hikers with different levels of experience.
Paths by the lake and in the village
A path around Lake St. Moritz is approximately 5 km long and takes about one hour. A guided tour of St. Moritz lasting around two hours provides an insight into the history of the village and Engadine traditions. The different time indications help you compare shorter paths by the water with a longer tour of the village.
On Lake St. Moritz, the St. Moritz Sailing Club offers sailing courses for beginners and advanced sailors. Champfèr lies between Silvaplana and St. Moritz and offers a wonderful view of Lake Champfèr and the surrounding mountain landscape. The Ova da Suvretta stream flows through the nearby village of Champfèr.
History of the water
Moritz is a mineral spring town at an altitude of 1,800 metres; its springs are associated with origins dating back to the Bronze Age, while the Mauritius spring structure displayed at the Forum Paracelsus dates from this era.
The Forum Paracelsus in St. Moritz Bad is dedicated to the history of St. Moritz's mineral springs. Touchscreens and listening stations there convey the history of the springs and bathing culture in ten languages. The forum is built around an old spring structure and commemorates the historical use of St. Moritz's water for drinking.
Museums and Engadine culture
The Berry Museum was founded in 2004 by Peter Robert Berry IV and opened in Villa Arona. It presents documents and objects relating to the more recent history of St. Moritz, including old ski equipment and sledges. It also displays oil paintings, pastels and drawings by Peter Robert Berry II, created over a period of forty years.
The Segantini Museum, opened in 1908, was built by the Engadine architect Nicolaus Hartmann (1880–1956) as a memorial to the painter Giovanni Segantini. Today, it houses the world's most comprehensive and significant collection of Giovanni Segantini's works.
The Museum Engiadinais has 21 exhibition rooms with historic interiors from five centuries and a permanent exhibition on the Romansh language. St. Moritz is also home to the only building in Switzerland by the famous Brazilian architect who is regarded as a pioneer of modern Brazilian architecture.
Sports history at the Olympia Bobrun
The Walk of Fame runs from the Info Point at the start along the Olympia Bob Run; large-format panels and QR codes provide historical and interactive information. The Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz–Celerina has been in operation since 1904, making it the oldest bobsleigh track still in use in the world.
