Schwarzenburg: Hotels and Accommodation

The Grasburg is a medieval castle ruin dating from the 11th or 12th century. It is situated high above the Sense River on a flat sandstone plateau. Visitors can reach the ruin via more than 140 secured steps.

Culture and History

The Grasburg is the largest castle in the canton of Bern and measures 150 × 50 metres. It was abandoned as an administrative centre after the Amtshaus was built in Schwarzenburg around 1576.

The Tätschdachhaus next to Schwarzenburg Castle is a typical regional farmhouse and can be visited. During office hours, the key to the interior can be borrowed from the nearby reception of Gantrisch Nature Park. The farm section of the Tätschdachhaus is used for exhibitions and events; the two living rooms are suitable for fondue and raclette evenings. The house is intended to be preserved as a regional cultural monument.

Schwarzenburg Castle also opens its unoccupied rooms to the public for visits.

Landscape

The second stage includes bathing and barbecue areas in the floodplain of the Sense Gorge.

There is a direct S-Bahn connection from Bern to Schwarzenburg on line S6.
