The winter kayaking tour on Lake Brienz starts in Bönigen. The village lies on the lower shore of Lake Brienz between two mountain ranges. Bönigen features meadows and picturesque wooden houses, some of which date back to the 16th century.

Culture and history
The village center is home to wooden houses dating from the 16th to the 18th century. The oldest part of Bönigen is of national significance. The Alte Pinte village museum presents the village’s history in a permanent exhibition. Alte Pinte also includes a farmhouse kitchen and a farmhouse living room with furnishings and household objects dating from 1730 to 1920.
Christi’s Spycher dates back to 1746 and is still used as a cheese storehouse. The Housihuus is a historic building dating from 1757 and was Bönigen’s first inn. King Frederick of Württemberg stayed there in 1808.
Lake and water
Bönigen lido offers a heated swimming pool, a natural beach, a water park, a trampoline, a restaurant, and a playground. There is also a boat rental service on Lake Brienz. Pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent at the lido.
Bönigen lido is a short walk from the boat landing stage and the Bönigen-See bus stop and is accessible by public transport.
Historic trails and hikes
The Historic House Trail passes through narrow alleyways and historic buildings with wood-carved façades. It is also available as an interactive SmarTrail in a web browser. From Bönigen, it is possible to take a walk along the shore of Lake Brienz toward Iseltwald.
In the wider regional area of the Jungfrau Region, there are more than 500 kilometers of signposted hiking trails. They range from easy walking and adventure trails to challenging mountain hikes and via ferrata routes.
