Culture and Glass
Limmareds Glasbruk is Sweden’s oldest glassworks still in operation and was founded in 1740. Around the museum, visitors can see characteristic buildings from the industrial community. At Glasets Hus, visitors can watch glassblowers at work and book an appointment to try glassblowing themselves. As a certified InfoPoint, the centre provides advice on excursions in the surrounding area, as well as brochures and maps.
At Torpa Stenhus, visitors can take guided tours of the castle, attend castle theatre performances and visit craftspeople. The castle café and restaurant serve food made with seasonal ingredients and inspired by the castle’s centuries-old hunting traditions; the focus is often on game dishes. Mossebo Church was completed by Joseph Hansson in 1773. Inside, there are pictorial depictions of biblical stories and an original portrait of Joseph Hansson. One of the few surviving chandeliers from Limmareds Glasbruk is located in the church; it was made in 1855. There is a ramp on the south side, and an accessible toilet is also available in the car park.
Landscape and Nature
The landscape of Tranemo Municipality includes open agricultural landscapes, barren bogs, deep mixed forests and numerous lakes. Covering 47 square kilometres, Komosse is one of the largest continuous bog areas in southern Sweden. Komosse södra includes the Bohestramossen, Johansjömossen and Fiskerydsmossen bogs on the border between Västergötland and Småland. The bogs of Komosse södra are largely treeless; larger pools are concentrated in the southern part of Johansjömossen. The area is a Natura 2000 protected site jointly managed by the municipalities of Tranemo and Ulricehamn.
Around 300 metres of Komosse’s boardwalk have been widened and fitted with a side guard to prevent prams and wheelchairs from rolling off. The path leads to a platform with a fire pit and several accessible benches. The Torpa–Hofsnäs area at Yttre Åsunden in Tranemo Municipality is home to numerous rare and Red-Listed lichens, fungi and wood-boring insects, which are mainly associated with old oaks. More than 130 bird species have been recorded around Lake Torpasjön near Torpanäset.
The Hofsnäs nature trails are located in the Torpanäset Nature Reserve. Old oaks, pastureland and a species-rich ground flora characterise the area, which provides a habitat for the endangered and Red-Listed hermit beetle. In Fagerås, trails lead through the daffodil grounds. During the season, more than one million flowering daffodils can be seen there; rhododendrons also begin to bloom towards the end of May.
Hiking and Trails
The Björnöleden is just over four kilometres long, begins at the car park near Mörkö and is mostly a circular route along a wooden boardwalk. The Jälmåleden is a 35-kilometre hiking trail in Tranemo Municipality. It allows visitors to combine hiking with paddling on the Jälmån. The trail also passes several attractions, including Viking Age burial grounds and ruins from the industrial era of the 19th century.
The Marjeboleden is a seven-kilometre, easy-to-walk route along Lake Marjebosjön and can also be used with a pram. Along the trail, there is information about historic sites, including iron production and Marie Convent. The route passes a bathing area and a barbecue site by the lake, with views over Lake Marjebosjön. The Hofsnäs nature trails consist of three easy circular routes between 1 and 4.8 kilometres long; the shortest is accessible. The trails begin at a car park in Tranemo Municipality, while the nearest bus stop is in Länghem, approximately five kilometres from the trails.
Water, Fishing and Cycling
Fishing, hiking, cycling and paddling are among the activities offered to visitors in Tranemo Municipality. Kroksjöns fiskecamp offers put-and-take fishing for rainbow trout. The Malensjöarnas FVO fishing area includes Lille Malen, Stormalen and Mörkemalen. The three lakes are surrounded by spruce and deciduous forest; species found there include pike, perch, pike-perch, bream and eel.
The bathing area at Lake Tranemosjön in Tranemo has a jetty, a bathing platform, lawns, a toilet, a boat jetty, tables and benches, as well as a beach volleyball court. When riding rail bikes, visitors can stop at the rest area near Holmåkra, about four kilometres to the south, to take a break, have coffee and swim. Rail biking is possible between Ambjörnarp and Sjötofta on the former Landeryd–Falköping railway line. The Ätradalsleden is a 199-kilometre national cycling trail between Falköping and Falkenberg; 95 kilometres run along former railway embankments that are entirely free of motor traffic.
