Cañedo between Church, Trails and History
Accommodation in Cañedo
Cañedo is home to the Gothic Church of Santa María de Cañedo. It is a single-nave building with three bays and a straight-ended chancel. A private chapel, endowed by Juan Fernández de la Peña, was added on its Gospel side at the beginning of the 17th century.
Culture
The main altarpiece of Santa María de Cañedo is a Neoclassical work from the beginning of the 19th century. It contains twelve oil-painted panels from an older altarpiece. Its central niche houses a Gothic statue of the Virgin dating from the 14th century; the altarpiece also contains a Calvary scene from the mid-16th century. The main altarpiece and its paintings were restored in 1984 by the Taller Itinerante de Restauración.
