Old Town and Cultural Heritage
The historic city centre of Slovenj Gradec has preserved its original layout and is now an important urban monument. You can stroll along the remains of Slovenia’s best-preserved medieval city wall. The restored Rotenturn manor house was built from the former Schulthauzinger Tower.
St. Elisabeth’s Church is the oldest building in Slovenj Gradec and was built shortly after 1235. Its high-quality Baroque furnishings are considered one of the outstanding achievements of Baroque sculpture in the Slovenian region. Hugo Wolf spent his childhood in Slovenj Gradec. His birthplace houses a permanent commemorative exhibition about the composer; numerous cultural events can also be attended there.
The Koroška Gallery of Fine Arts, KGLU, is a museum of modern and contemporary art focusing on visual art from the second half of the 20th century onwards. The collection comprises around 3,000 works. The Slovenj Gradec Tourist Information Centre provides information about Slovenj Gradec, the surrounding area and the entire Koroška region. Cycling Trails with Different Levels of Difficulty
The Štrekna is paved along its entire 35 km route, consistently signposted and separated from motorised traffic. Its steady, gentle descent makes it particularly suitable for families and older cyclists. The moderately difficult Pavja Tura is 22.5 km long, starts in Slovenj Gradec and ends there. The more challenging Šisernikova Pot runs for 33 km to and from Slovenj Gradec and is intended for experienced and physically well-prepared cyclists. The easy Suhi Dol loop is 19.2 km long, starts in Slovenj Gradec, returns there and is suitable for all types of cyclists.
The Berneker Trail offers options for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. The 28.7 km Šmarje Parish Trail connects several churches in the area around Slovenj Gradec. The Crafts Trail runs for 7 km through Šmartno, Golavabuka and Legen and focuses on cultural history and ethnology.
Hiking Trails and Walks
Meškova pot is a 14 km trail through Sele and Vrhe. The Plešivec Trail is 10 km long and lies in the area of Slovenj Gradec. The Plešivec Trail runs along the edge of Uršlja gora through gorges, forests and meadows. The trail to Rahtelov vrh is a 4 km walking route near Slovenj Gradec. The Roman Trail extends for 11 km in the area of Slovenj Gradec. The Trail to the Land of the Dwarves is 6 km long and is located in Gmajna. The Tičnica Forest Educational Trail is 2.3 km long and begins in Rožnik Park. The Green Trail with a Story is an approximately 9.3 km circular educational trail starting from Podgorje.
Aqualatio: Water and Sauna
In summer, Aqualatio offers a large outdoor pool, a mini children’s pool and relaxation areas with trampolines. A heated pool with water features complements the bathing area. The facilities also include a Zen area with four different saunas.
Crafts, Sweets and Distillation
Perger 1757 preserves a gingerbread and candle-making tradition dating back to 1757. Visitors can learn how gingerbread hearts and wax candles are made and sample homemade sweets. AP GIN offers visits to its microdistillery, with information about distillation and Slovenian AP Gin. The visit ends with the mixing of gin and tonics.
