Chľaba lies where the Ipeľ flows into the Danube. The local landscape includes the forested Kováčovské kopce, cleared southeastern slopes with vineyards and a high loess terrace. This brings together river scenery, forest, viticulture and distinctive geological formations within a small geographical area.

Nature

The Kováčovské vrchy–juh national nature reserve extends into the western part of Chľaba. It was designated in 1966 and covers 364.14 hectares. The Kováčovské kopce are covered with deciduous forests; vineyards grow on their southeastern slopes, which have been partially cleared. The high loess terrace further complements this landscape. The nature reserve is also the northernmost locality of the so-called Pannonian flora. This designation refers to the special phytogeographical position of the protected area and does not imply any particular visitor experience beyond that.

Culture

A historical landmark in the municipality is the Roman Catholic Church of sv. Imricha kráľoviča. It was built in 1769 in the late Baroque style and remodeled after 1800 in the Classicist style. Older murals on the vaults were restored in 1994. The church building therefore preserves several chronological and stylistic layers, which can be seen in its architecture and furnishings.

The Pivničné múzeum is also part of the local cultural history. It was established in 2005 to preserve a unique presentation of architecture, craftsmanship and winemaking traditions. The museum preserves valuable objects, equipment, photographs, written documents and other interesting items. You can request further information or arrange a visit with PaedDr. Zlatica Tóthová at 0915/319 946.

Wine

In or directly around Chľaba, there are approximately 10-metre-long, barrel-vaulted wine cellars excavated directly into andesite hills. A group of six wine cellars in Chľaba was registered as an immovable cultural monument in 2007. The cellars thus combine a specific architectural form of winemaking with a documented protection status, while the museum preserves the related craft and winemaking traditions.

Trails

The Kováčovské kopce–juh educational trail has six stations and an introductory information board in Kamenica nad Hronom. It is self-guided and linear, but can be walked in both directions. The educational trail is also open year-round. Another connection leads via a blue-marked trail through Veľká dolina to Chľaba. The two trail descriptions remain clearly distinct: the educational trail has its stations and introductory information board, while the blue-marked trail leads through Veľká dolina to Chľaba.
