Geographical location
Băile Borșa lies at the foot of the Toroioaga Massif. The place is situated in a valley where the Țâșla and Secu rivers meet. There are mineral springs in Băile Borșa, in the Țâșla Valley. Băile Alexandri is a seasonal spa micro-resort of local importance at the Vinișorul spring. The massif, valley, spring area and spring are distinct location references.
Winter sports and trails
The hiking trail between the Vaser Valley and Băile Borșa connects two different tourism areas on foot. Another route connecting Baia Borșa, Tăul Fătăciunii and Toroiaga is approximately 18–20 kilometres long and takes 10 hours. The Baia Borșa–Plaiul Lucăciasa–Baia Borșa circular route begins in Baia Borșa and follows a former mining trail. On the return journey, it leads through the Țâsla Valley back to Baia Borșa. The Șesuri–Cabana Fântâna Stanchii–Băile Borșa route ends at the roundabout in Băile Borșa. In 2021, carriage rides were offered at settling ponds 1–2 on the road towards Băile Borșa.
For planning a day trip, the trails can be compared by route type, approximate length, stated duration and endpoint. The routes can be considered side by side as a connection between two tourism areas, as a circular route or as a route with a named endpoint. The approximate length of 18–20 kilometres and the duration of 10 hours provide a different basis for comparison from the route described or the specific endpoint. The carriage rides at settling ponds 1–2 should be distinguished from these as a separate activity associated with the year 2021.
If you are considering Băile Borșa as a destination for a skiing holiday, at a ski hotel you can primarily compare travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. This selection can therefore be considered independently of the different route types and the historical references to the place.
Nature and history
The species Silene rupestris, endemic to Băile Borșa, occurs on Culmea Socolescu; it has low white flowers and is adapted to the andesitic rocky soil. The historic miners’ monument was unveiled in August 1993 and reconsecrated on 28 July 2018. The Catedrala Minerilor in Baia Borșa was built between 1995 and 2001.
The information about nature on Culmea Socolescu and the details about the monument and cathedral represent different aspects of the place: one concerns a locally endemic plant species and its habitat, while the other concerns chronologically situated evidence of mining history. Both topics complement the geographical and sporting references to the place with specific names and dates.
