Mlaștina „După Luncă“ Natural Area

The Mlaștina „După Luncă“ nature reserve is a national protected area. It overlaps with the identically named Site of Community Importance and with the „Depresiunea și Munții Giurgeului“ Special Protection Area for birds within Romania’s Natura 2000 network.

Numerous rare and endangered plants occur in Mlaștina „După Luncă“. These include the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) and common butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris). The Siberian ligularia (Ligularia sibirica) is considered a relict species. This creates a specific focus for nature enthusiasts, in which not only the landscape but also individual plant species play a role.

Churches, Monastery and Local Particularities

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Voşlăbeni was built in 1864 to replace an older wooden church. The former wooden church in Voşlăbeni had already been consecrated in 1714 by Bishop Sava III of Roman. There are 150 years between the two dates.

In the municipality of Voşlăbeni and its affiliated villages, traditional local recipes, local customs, crafts and traditional activities are regarded as elements of local distinctiveness. These themes complement the sacred buildings with aspects of everyday life and inherited regional practices. The bell tower in Boteni was built in 1901.

The Adormirea Maicii Domnului Monastery is located near Voşlăbeni on DN 12 between Miercurea Ciuc and Gheorgheni. It lies at the foot of Hășmașul Mare, between the Mureș and Olt rivers, at an elevation of 950 m.

Via Mariae and Hiking Route

The Via Mariae includes a 26.6 km, 9-hour stage from Suseni via Voşlăbeni to Cârța. At 26.6 km and nine hours, the stage takes up a substantial block of time in a one-day itinerary. In a multi-day itinerary, it can be treated as a separate section.

A hiking route in the surrounding area connects Izvoru Mureșului, Muntele Negru and Peștera Șugău. In addition, there is a tourist information office in the surrounding area of Voşlăbeni, in Izvoru Mureșului. Izvoru Mureșului is therefore both part of the hiking route and the location of the tourist information office.
