Lørenskog: Nature, Waterways and Local History
Accommodation in Municipality of Lørenskog
In Lørenskog, nature, waterways and local history are defining themes of a stay. The Østmarka nature reserve covers almost 18 km² and is located in the municipalities of Enebakk, Rælingen and Lørenskog. Østmarka has walking paths, cross-country ski trails and lakes that can be enjoyed year-round. In winter, groomed cross-country ski trails lead into the nature of Østmarka from Losby besøksgård. This gives you a choice of different trip-planning options: paths, ski trails, or activities on and by the water.
Østmarka, Canoeing and Fishing
The Losbyvassdraget is particularly well suited to canoeing. Canoeists can start at Losby besøksgård and use a canoe trolley to transport the canoe along a path of about 1.5 km to the bathing area at Mønevann. The word “about” is important for planning: the distance given refers to this transport route, not to a canoe trip on the water.
Several waters are also mentioned as fishing spots. Fishing from a boat or canoe is permitted in Mønevann, Geitsjøen, Fløyta, Røyrivann and Nordre Krokvann with the appropriate boat-fishing permit. Fishing is also possible in the Losbyelva and the waters farther down the valley in Losbydalen. If you want to fish from a boat or canoe, take into account the stated permit requirement for the five lakes; this condition is not specified for the waters in Losbydalen.
Losby besøksgård is a visitor farm with a visitor cowshed, stable and farm café. It is open to visitors every day except Monday. These facilities offer another possible focus for your stay alongside outdoor activities.
Local History and Special Routes
The Vasshjulet powered Østmorksaga, one of the largest sawmills in the region and one of the last water-powered sawmills in Norway to operate a frame saw. Anyone interested in the history of crafts and technology will find a tangible link here to the former use of hydropower. The area and the Vasshjulet have been made more accessible. A footbridge over the Losbyelva is intended to connect to Losbyveien via a path on the west side of the river.
Lørenskog kirke is the oldest building in Lørenskog. Olavskilden lies near the church on Hammersberget. A signposted walking path leads from the parking area by the church to St. Olavskilden. The route connects a visit to the spring with the area’s local history.
Milorghula was used as a hideout during the Second World War. The easiest way to reach it is via the Lionsstubben path from Skihytta; a signposted turnoff leads to the hideout. Skulerudstua adds to the historical interest: the house is one of the few surviving 17th-century wooden houses in Akershus and a typical Østlandsstue in the Akershus style.
Farm Cafés and Regional Food Culture
In the stable at Skårer gård, the exhibition is titled “Kjøkkenveien – matens reise fra jord til bord” (“The kitchen route – food’s journey from field to table”); it opened in 2020. On Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a café and the museum exhibitions are open there. You can take these specific opening hours into account when planning a Thursday visit.
Skulerudstua also offers a clearly defined seasonal stop for refreshments: from mid-September until Easter, it is open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for refreshments for hikers. Leikarringen Hunar sells waffles, coffee and cocoa. This makes it possible to include both cultural interests and a break with a locally rooted visitor experience in your stay plans.
