Hiking and Mountain Landscapes
Molazzana offers a mountain landscape where marked trails, forests, rocky slopes and peaks are closely connected with the surrounding area. The different starting points and trail routes are particularly important when planning individual tours.
CAI Trail No. 7 begins at Piglionico in the heart of the municipality of Molazzana and leads to the Enrico Rossi Refuge and Pania della Croce, one of the most distinctive peaks of the Apuan Alps. The well-marked and signposted trail runs through cool forests, over steep slopes and along old rock steps.
Trail 127 also begins at Piglionico. It initially follows Trail No. 7 and then branches off towards Mosceta. The trail runs along a mountainside through shady forests and across extensive scree fields. Along the way, there are views of Pania della Croce, Monte Sumbra and the surrounding peaks.
Several CAI trails branch off from Alpe di Sant’Antonio towards the Enrico Rossi Refuge. This provides different described trail routes for orientation in the area around Molazzana, without the routes having to be combined into a single itinerary.
From the Serchio to the Apuan Alps
The municipality of Molazzana stretches from the right bank of the Serchio River to the peaks of Pania della Croce, at 1,859 metres, Pania Secca and Pizzo delle Saette. The landscape passes through vineyards and olive groves, chestnut forests and beech forests before reaching the limestone bastions of the Apuan Alps, which are adorned with impressive blossoms in June.
Pania Secca is a peak in the area around Molazzana. Pizzo delle Saette is also a peak in the area around Molazzana. Monte Pania della Croce is a mountain in the area around Molazzana, and Monte Forato is also a mountain in the area around Molazzana.
Museums and Regional History
Molazzana is home to the Museo Linea Gotica Garfagnana. The museum was established by the Comitato Linea Gotica Garfagnana in the former Don Bosco primary school and collects wartime materials and supplies belonging to the armies involved, as well as documents, photographs, maps and testimonies concerning the conflict in the Garfagnana.
The wider region around Molazzana is home to several museums with different focuses: the Museo archeologico di Camaiore is an archaeological museum. The Museo Archeologico Versiliese “b. Antonucci” is also a museum. The Barbara Paci Galleria d'Arte and the Galleria Petrarte are further museums in the wider regional area around Molazzana.
