Archaeology and History at the Museo Retico

The Museo Retico houses a permanent exhibition of the local archaeological heritage, spanning the period from prehistory to the early Middle Ages. The “Sanzeno Antica” exhibition area presents the history of archaeological research from the 19th century to the present day. The Museo Retico also has spaces for temporary exhibitions, activities and educational workshops.

The Lez di San Romedio

The Lez di San Romedio begins at the Museo Retico di Sanzeno. The trail follows the route of an old 19th-century irrigation canal, running partly through the rock and partly along wooden walkways. The hike from Sanzeno to San Romedio is easy and follows a level path. It takes 45 minutes from the Museo Retico di Sanzeno to the sanctuary.

For 2026, the Lez di San Romedio is listed as open and accessible. A climbing helmet and suitable footwear are required for the Lez di San Romedio. The Museo Retico building is located at the beginning of the nature trail leading into the gorge of the San Romedio sanctuary.

Basilica dei SS. Martiri di Sanzeno

The Basilica dei SS. Martiri di Sanzeno stands on the site where Sisinio, Martirio and Alessandro, evangelists from Cappadocia, suffered martyrdom on 29 May 397. The Martiri di Sanzeno features a Gothic-Renaissance style. Among other things, an imposing Romanesque bell tower remains from the old church of the Basilica dei SS. Martiri di Sanzeno.

The marble high altar of the Basilica dei SS. Martiri di Sanzeno, dating from 1771, houses a painting by Giambattista Lampi depicting the martyrs.

Multimedia Insights at Casa de Gentili

The multimedia offering at Casa de Gentili includes an approximately 15-minute film with a soundtrack about a helicopter flight over the entire Val di Non. Five talking panels at Casa de Gentili show short films about the history and the social and cultural life of the valley. Casa de Gentili also features an accessible and illuminated orthophotographic map of Val di Non showing municipalities, fortified residences, noble houses and hermitages.

Casa Contadina di Sanzeno

Using work tools, everyday objects and photographs, the Casa Contadina di Sanzeno provides an overview of two centuries of agricultural history in Val di Non. The Casa Contadina di Sanzeno is a rural dwelling preserved unchanged for centuries, with a crafts workshop, furniture, everyday objects, clothing and former workplaces such as a tailor’s shop and a shoemaker’s workshop.

The Casa Contadina di Sanzeno offers an educational tour of local customs, traditions and working techniques for children, adults, families and school students.
